The facial laser hair removal process

Before the treatment
We analyse your skin type and determine the right laser protocol. The area should be shaved the day before; please avoid waxing, plucking and self-tanner in the weeks beforehand.

During the treatment
The treatment is carried out with protective goggles and integrated cooling. A test pulse is used to fine-tune the energy, after which the individual areas are treated one after the other.

After the treatment
Slight redness on the face is normal for a few hours, up to one day at most. Avoid sun, sauna and sunbeds afterwards.

What is facial hair – and why is laser hair removal so effective?
Facial hair on the upper lip, chin or cheeks is caused by genetic predisposition or hormonal changes, for example during pregnancy, the menopause or after stopping the pill.
Shaving, plucking and bleaching only work for a short time and can irritate the skin, especially when they are needed daily for years. With the InMode DiolazeXL diode laser we reduce the hair gradually; we determine the laser protocol individually according to the area and your skin. We treat the upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns and neck, and for men also the full face and beard. For safety reasons we do not treat the eyebrows themselves.

Questions about facial laser hair removal
Which facial areas can be lasered?
The upper lip, chin, cheeks, sideburns and neck. For safety reasons we do not treat the eyebrows themselves, because the distance to the eye is too small. We clarify which areas make sense for you in a free consultation.
How many sessions do I need for the face?
Usually several, 4 to 6 weeks apart. Only hairs in the active growth phase respond to the laser energy, and the follicles are never all in this phase at the same time. We create your personal treatment plan after the skin analysis.
Is facial laser hair removal permanent?
It leads to a permanent reduction in facial hair, not to being completely hair-free forever. Because facial follicles are particularly hormonally active, one or two top-up sessions a year can be useful. A review in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (Haedersdal and Wulf, 2006) confirms a reduction in hair count lasting for months with diode lasers – it does not prove complete, permanent hair removal.
May I shave between sessions?
Yes, shaving between appointments is expressly encouraged – on the day of treatment it is best to come freshly shaved. Plucking, waxing and epilating, however, are off-limits, because they remove the hair root as well and the laser can no longer reach it at the next appointment.
Does the laser work on light or grey fine hairs?
White, grey and very light blonde hairs contain too little pigment for the laser to capture them reliably; the result is then usually considerably weaker than with darker hairs. We check whether your fine hairs have enough pigment in a personal consultation.
