Why does laser hair removal on arms work so well?
Arm hair differs from zone to zone. On the upper arms it is often denser and darker, while on the forearms it tends to be finer and lighter. Many people notice dark hairs on light skin in particular, and shaving large areas regularly takes time and often leaves the skin irritated.
At Vitalite Esthetics in Vienna, we choose between two laser systems depending on your hair. The Mediostar Monolith covers larger areas like the arms evenly and efficiently. For finer or lighter arm hair, we use the InMode Diolaze XL diode laser.

The settings are chosen according to your skin and hair structure.
Hair growth is reduced step by step over a course of treatments.

Before the Treatment
Your skin expert analyzes your skin and hair type and determines the right laser protocol. Please shave your arms the day before. Avoid waxing, epilating and plucking for four weeks beforehand, as well as self-tanner and tanning beds.
During the Treatment
Your arms are treated section by section with protective eyewear and integrated cooling. Most clients describe the sensation as warm and slightly tingling.
After the Treatment
Mild redness for a few hours is normal. Avoid sports, sauna and hot showers for 24 to 48 hours. Because your arms are exposed to the sun all year round, protect them consistently from UV rays for at least two weeks.

Recommended Number of Treatments
The arms usually need 6 to 10 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. A clear reduction often shows from the third or fourth session.

Questions & Answers
No, hair removal for cosmetic reasons is a private service in Austria. Neither the ÖGK nor the other health insurance funds cover the cost. Cost sharing is only possible in rare cases with a medical indication, which must be assessed by a doctor.
We do not laser around the eyes and eyebrows, over tattoos and moles, or on sunburned or freshly tanned skin. The upper arms and forearms, on the other hand, can be treated well. What is possible in your case is clarified beforehand in the skin analysis.
Usually 6 to 10 sessions are needed, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Laser light only reaches hairs in the active growth phase, and the follicles are never all in this phase at the same time. Forearms often need a few more sessions because of their finer hair.
The treatment leads to a permanent reduction in hair growth, not to completely hair-free skin forever. Hormonal changes can reactivate individual hairs, so occasional top-up sessions are useful.
A systematic review by the Cochrane Collaboration shows a clear reduction in hair count with diode and alexandrite lasers over several months. Both of our laser systems are diode lasers. The review does not show complete, lifelong hair removal.

The laser responds to the pigment in the hair, so dark arm hair responds most reliably. For lighter or finer hair, we use the InMode Diolaze XL, which can also reach less pigmented hair. White and grey hair cannot be treated with a laser because it lacks pigment.
